i just re-discovered sara bareilles. her song “love song” was so overplayed on the radio that i never imagined she’d have more good music.

i was really excited when i read this week’s “talk to me tuesday” on Tip Junkie – so much so that I had to run around with my camera the minute i read it! meaning no nice morning light. instead i have night-time lighting, so bear with me.
this week’s topic is “Top 10 Favorite Things In My House” and i’m not sure if this qualifies because i don’t even have a house! nate & i just moved into our first apartment last month, so we don’t have very many “things”, let alone a house 
i now present.. the Top 10 Favorite Things that have traveled with me from college dorm to small apartment to my current abode! (in no specific order)

now i know i’m short, but our bathroom medicine cabinet was installed by giants because i can’t see into the mirror (or reach past the first shelf). so i got this little mirror. which makes me happy. i mean, just look at the little bird on top:

Carved Wooden Giraffe from Jamaica
my mom and I bought this giraffe as a souvenir in Jamaica after climbing the Dunn’s River Falls. he hasn’t found a proper home in our new apartment yet, so for now he’s guarding the side table.

Trivets & Teapot
i have these displayed above my stove because they make me happy to look at. these are flea-market finds and i like to think that one day i’ll be on antiques roadshow and they will tell me that my trivet collection and silver teapot are priceless and i will feign surprise because i already knew they were special.

Little Red Ceramic Bowl (and more trivets)
this one is sad because i loved this bowl so much. it’s chinese red color, its imperfections. i loved running my fingers across it’s smooth surface. and then one day it fell on the floor and smashed into a bunch of pieces.
and so i glued them all back together. piece by piece.
and now it sits on my stove and i still love it even with all of its imperfections.

you can’t tell, but it’s lime green inside, which makes it pretty enough to leave out even when there aren’t any flowers in it!

Kurt Halsey poster “Everything Adventurous”
this is the only poster that made it from dorm to our apartment living room wall. i love this poster because i am a huge kurt halsey fan (although i don’t have any tattoos) and it reminds me of college.

The Boyfriend.
this post is on our anniversary, so i’m allowed to be sappy… he’s my favorite thing that is in our apartment! here’s to four of the best years of our lives and our first month living together!
oh, and we don’t actually live near the ocean – this is from our vacation.

i’m not proud of it, but i do read thesuperficial.com on occasion, whether to make myself feel bad about my body or because i enjoy the witty writing, but i needed to share this. you NEED to read this post. i would paraphrase, but it would ruin it. all you need to know is that verne troyer is involved.

how did i miss this posting in the albany craigslist:
I HAVE A 1995 MO’ VAN THAT GOT TRANSFORMED INTO THIS CATBUS. I BROUGHT IT TO A SHOPS AND I WAS LIKE HEY, CAN YOU TURN THIS INTO A CATBUS? SO THEY DID. THEN THAT DAY I DROVE IT HOME. THE CAT BUS ONLY HAS 50K, WHICH ARE ALL HIGHWAY MILES AS I DROVE IT TO WORK 2 DAYS A WEEK AND THAT WAS IT. IT’S IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE AND ALL THE FUR IS STILL ALL THERE. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A CAT ON IT. IM ONLY ASKING 2900 FOR THE CATBUS BECAUSE ITS REALLY FURRY AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE GET SICK ON IT.
i don’t know which part is my favorite.. maybe the part where he (or she) says “i brought it in to a shops and i was like Hey, can you turn this into a catbus?” or the part where they assure the buyer that it “still has all the fur”.
hey $2900’s not a bad deal.
